Ticks fall off their host and remain in the environment until your pet brushes by them; that's when they grab on. Ticks attach and will take a blood meal for as long as they like and will often remain attached for several days. They lie close to your pet’s body making them hard to find.

If you take your pet outdoors for camping, sporting or hiking or if your pet has been near tick-prone areas such as bushes or loose brush, even in your backyard, check them for ticks immediately. Ticks can hide between your pet’s toes or in their ears, so check thoroughly. The longer the tick is attached, the more likely it will infect your pet with Lyme disease or other tick-borne illnesses.

Outdoor animals that carry ticks include mice, birds, squirrel, skunks, opossum, rabbits, deer, raccoons, and foxes.

Credelio kills adult fleas, treats flea infestations, and treats and controls tick infestations in dogs and puppies 8 weeks or older and 4.4 pounds or heavier. Give every 30 days.

Because they are not always easy to detect and often carry diseases, we recommend fighting ticks before your pet is infested.

Signs & Treatment of Ticks

Tick Prevention

Ticks are large enough to be seen with the naked eye, but they are often hard to see beneath fur. If you feel an abnormal bump on your pet, pull back the fur to determine if it is a tick or something else. Tick bites can cause irritation to your pet, but the scratching won’t be as frequent as with a flea infestation (one long bite vs. many small bites).

Ticks must be removed carefully, typically with tweezers, as close to the skin as possible. Improper removal could result in the tick’s head remaining attached to your pet’s skin. For professional assistance, contact your veterinarian immediately.

Consult your veterinarian for treatment options that are right for your pet.
