What to Expect When My Pet is Hospitalized
Hospitalizing a sick or injured pet can be scary, but sometimes it is medically necessary or the best option for a safe and speedy recovery. Our team of medical professionals is on-site 24/7 to provide the best possible care for your pet and try to help them get home as quickly as possible. To help provide additional peace of mind, we’ve compiled a list of FAQs about hospitalization. If you have any additional questions or concerns, please give us a call at 847-885-3344.
Will I get regular updates? Keep an eye on your text messages, as this is the fastest and easiest way our team can provide updates. We encourage you to call or text us for regular updates if you have any questions.
- Medical updates: Our team is working hard to ensure your pet receives the attention they deserve, and we will always provide updates right away if there are any major or critical changes during your pet’s stay. If your pet is generally happy and doing well, updates may be less frequent.
- Billing updates: The estimates we provide are meant to be a transparent guideline so that you know what to expect when we discharge your pet. Our goal is to keep you updated on coast throughout your pet’s stay. The best way to stay current on your bill is to ask about it when you call for patient updates. Our team will do everything we can to keep you updated if changes to your pet’s clinical condition are expected to affect the anticipated cost of hospitalization.
Can I visit my pet while they’re hospitalized? Absolutely! We’ve seen desirable effects on patients’ moods when they get to see their loved ones. Please call ahead to check on the best time to visit your pet. Some pets receive treatments every hour, so if you come during a treatment time your visit may be cut short.
What can I bring for my pet?
- Food: Food is always welcome. If your pet is hospitalized with gastrointestinal symptoms, please bring a gastrointestinal-friendly diet. Our team can make recommendations if you are unsure of what to bring.
- Toys/Treats/Personal Items: This will vary by patient. Contact our team to see if a personal item may help with a pet’s anxiety OR if it would be detrimental to their recovery. Please note that personal items may become mixed with ours and become lost, so do not bring anything that is irreplaceable.
Can I chat with the doctor while I visit? Being an ER, we cannot guarantee that a doctor will be available to talk during your visit. Our receptionists and technicians are always available to help answer questions or take a message for the doctor.
